Personalised Review Intervals — Smarter, Adaptive Memorisation

Learning words isn’t one-size-fits-all — some words stick instantly, others take a few tries. That’s why Mem-App now introduces Personalised Review Intervals, a smarter way to schedule your reviews based on how easily you remember each word.

🌟 What’s New

Every time you review a word, you can now choose how well you remember it:

  • Easy, Remembered — “Got it instantly.”
  • Good, Remembered — “A bit of thinking, but I knew it.”
  • Hard, Remembered — “Barely remembered.”
  • No, Forgot — “Couldn’t recall it.”

Your choice adjusts the word’s ease factor — a score that affects when it appears next. “Easy” increases the factor by 0.1, “Good” leaves it as is, “Hard” decreases it by 0.14, and “Forgot” drops it by 0.8.

The next review interval is then calculated dynamically using the last interval and your new ease factor. The easier a word becomes, the later its next review — and vice versa.

Each “Remembered” option also increases the word’s rank by 1 (up to mastery), while “Forgot” pulls it back to rank 2 — or keeps it at 1 if it’s still in the learning stage.

💡 Why It Matters

Not all learners are the same — and neither are their words. This adaptive scheduling:

  • Keeps easy words out of your way longer
  • Brings back tricky words sooner
  • Builds a review rhythm unique to you
  • Boosts long-term retention with less effort

Over time, Mem-App even tracks an average ease factor per list — so new words start with a difficulty tuned to your learning pattern (default: 2.3).

🚀 How to Try It

  1. Add new words to your list.
  2. After the first review (i.e. “learning”) day, start your reviews.
  3. Choose one of the four response options each time.
  4. Watch your review schedule adapt automatically!
