Sentence Pronunciation - Hear Words in Context

We're excited to announce a powerful new feature in Mem-App: Sentence Pronunciation. You can now click the speaker icon next to any example sentence to hear it spoken aloud, helping you understand how words are used in real-world contexts.

Why It Matters

Learning vocabulary isn't just about memorizing definitions—it's about understanding how words work in natural speech. When you hear a word used in a complete sentence, you gain:

  • Contextual Understanding: Hear how the word fits naturally into conversation
  • Proper Intonation: Learn the rhythm and stress patterns of natural speech
  • Better Retention: Context-based learning helps words stick in your memory
  • Pronunciation Confidence: Practice saying words the way native speakers do

Reading example sentences is helpful, but hearing them brings the language to life.

What's New?

Sentence Pronunciation

Every example sentence in Mem-App now includes a speaker icon. Simply click it to hear the entire sentence pronounced. For English, you can hear both American (en-US) and British (en-UK) pronunciations. Spanish is also fully supported, with more languages coming soon. This works seamlessly alongside our existing word pronunciation feature.

For example, when you look up the word "serendipity," you'll see example sentences like:

  • "Finding that book was pure serendipity."
  • "Their meeting was a happy serendipity."

Click the speaker icon next to any sentence, and you'll hear it spoken naturally, helping you understand not just what the word means, but how it sounds in real use.

Word Pronunciation (Already Available)

Mem-App has always offered dual pronunciation for individual words. For English, you can hear both American and British pronunciations, complete with phonetic transcriptions. Spanish and other supported languages also include pronunciation features.

How It Helps You Learn

Context is everything when learning a new language. Hearing words in complete sentences helps you:

  1. Understand Usage: See (and hear) how words combine with others
  2. Improve Listening Skills: Train your ear to recognize words in natural speech
  3. Build Confidence: Practice pronunciation before using words in conversation
  4. Learn Faster: Multi-sensory learning (reading + listening) accelerates retention

Whether you're learning English, Spanish, or preparing for the upcoming languages, sentence pronunciation makes vocabulary acquisition more effective and enjoyable.

How to Try It

  1. Look up any word in Mem-App
  2. Scroll to the "Usage examples" section
  3. Click the speaker icon next to any example sentence

We hope this feature helps you master vocabulary more naturally and confidently.
